A study published in September 2025 by OpenAI and the NBER provides for the first time a detailed view of the real uses of the platform, based on internal data covering all users (<a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/how-people-are-using-chatgpt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenAI, <em>How people are using ChatGPT<\/em><\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Massive and rapid adoption of ChatGPT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>700 million weekly active users<\/strong> in July 2025, i.e. approximately <strong>10 % of the world's adult population<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than <strong>2.5 billion messages a day<\/strong>, or approximately <strong>29,000 per second<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-work-related uses are now in the majority: from <strong>53 % in June 2024<\/strong> \u00e0 <strong>73 % in June 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"544\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nutrimedia.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/La-croissance-de-ChatGPT-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nutrimedia.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/La-croissance-de-ChatGPT-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.nutrimedia.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/La-croissance-de-ChatGPT-1-480x272.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 960px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three dominant uses for ChatGPT: information, guidance and writing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly <strong>80 % conversations<\/strong> fall under three main headings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Practical Guidance<\/strong> : about <strong>29 % of uses<\/strong>, including tutoring, teaching and creativity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seeking Information<\/strong> up sharply from <strong>14 % to 24 %<\/strong> in one year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Writing and editing texts<\/strong> down overall by <strong>36 % to 24 %<\/strong>, but which remains <strong>initial professional use<\/strong> (40 % of work-related messages). Its three pillars of use are <strong>practical advice, finding information and writing<\/strong>.
